Original Source: Nuts & Bolts of Fishing
Rewind the calendar about 40 years. Back to a time when the pace was a little slower, less hectic, less commercialized, less complicated. Think back to the places where you went just to relax and enjoy being closer to Mother Nature, and good friends around a campfire. Maybe you did a little fishing, or a casual boat ride on calm waters. Or maybe you did absolutely nothing at all. It was your time…and for a few days, time stood still. All was right with the world.
Today, there are just a few places that still offer that casual, down-home, laid-back feel. Sure, plenty of destinations ‘say’ that’s what you’ll find, but only a scarce few actually deliver on their promise.
One destination that absolutely fits the mold lies on the banks of Lake Marion near Summerton, South Carolina. And its name describes it perfectly…Relaxed Retreat at Carolina King.
When you enter the property, you get the Old School feel of a true fish camp. Several dozen quaint red cottages line the drive, most with a view of the lake. Front decks and screened porches with wooden swings immediately signal this is a place to relax, to slow down and enjoy a respite from the chaos of work schedules and the internet…although they do have WiFi there.
